I would say the guitar...a friend of mine plays it and he is always learning new things but he is pretty much a musical genius. I can play the piano pretty easily just not a lot of it.

WOW the people who says piano is harder than the guitar are morons. I also read that someone learned the guitar in a month??!?!?!?!?! What excatly do you people constitute as playing the guitar? Strumming a chord? Besides that what else have you people tried? What about legatos and sweep picking? Finger/hybrid picking? Oh you don't know what that is? Well it's because your all morons and don't know anything about the guitar. Perfecting this fine piece of equipment takes YEARS and not months or days. I play both and the guitar is definitely 10x harder the piano because everything is on a microscopic scale. Please people, do not think that because you can strum a couple of chords you think your playing something....If anyone can even play like the real pros: Zakk wylde, Joe satriani, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tommy Emmanuel then you might have a chance of an opinion about guitar playing. Other than that, please do not discuss anything that you don't know.

Playing both, I would have to say "both".

Here's the reasoning. With the piano, it's real easy to actually play a song very soon. It's easy to learn how to play chords, and to add a melody to them.

With the Guitar, it takes some physical conditioning of the fingers to become really effective. It's a bit more difficult to actually play a simple melody, and some chords are actually difficult to learn at first.

Once you've learned a bit of guitar, it's easy to accompany vocals, but to actually play an instrumental piece takes a bit of work.

In the end, to achieve some level of virtuosity is equally difficult. Each instrument has it's strong points. The piano has a much greater range. It can play more notes simultaneously. The guitar is much more portable. You can bend notes on a guirar, and have effects such as hammer on, pull off, and harmonics.

They are both fabulous instruments and to play either well takes a good bit of dedication and work.

They both have their ups and downs. Personally, I think that they are both very easy to learn basic chords on and play minimally but anything other than that takes effort. They're probably equal.

both are special in their own way, it depends on you. piano can be hard if you cant make your fingers do diffent things, and guitar can be hard if you cant go with rythm and contro fingers.
