breaking means to break their spirit - you do so by putting them in a round pen and chasing them till they are exhausted and have no will to fight left
TRAINING is something differernt.. where you actually take the time to work with horse..
halter training is first... teaching them mannars and "whoa" and tying
then lunging
then ground driving
introduce saddle and bridle - lunging with these...
then they are ridden
this takes a lot longer than "breaking"
30-60 days at least.. (longer if they were not halter trained when younger)

Find a good trainer. One that will be gentle with your horse, but get the job done. It is never a good idea to hire a trainer that abuses your horse as a training method. If you want to train your horse yourself, try the Parelli way. We have a neighbor that had never owned a horse in the past, but used the Parelli method diligently and has done wonders with her first horse. Good Luck!

if you dont have experience training a horse, then i suggest you find a person that does. of course you wil have to pay up. training takes lots of time and lots of patience. is the horse already halter broke? start there, be very gentle.talk to the horse almost constantly while training, in a gentle voice so that it will gain some trust. look up craig cameron, he is an awesome trainer, and he might have a website that could be useful.

Hi Mark P.
I just got done with 2 of my own horses . I have had them since they were one and have spent time with them daily the last year and a half.. I first halter broke them and then worked with them on leading. I spent a lot of time just petting and rubbing getting them used to being touched........... Treats are nice and keep intrest/////////// I do not know the age of your horse or how long you have owned it . With the time I spent with mine when I did saddle and bridle I was never bucked or taken off with like so many horror stories ... Lucky I guess... Take your time and make friends first remember a horse wants to please you if you treat them right they just don't know what you are doing or if you are going to hurt them.. reassure all the time ... They only have you... They want to trust you but they too get scared... give it a try Good luck.

Hire a professional horse trainer. You cannot just read a book and know how to train a horse, and if you try, you could do permanent damage to the horse's personality. Find a professional, and maybe watch them while they work, and in time you might learn how to do it yourself.
