"Can a liberal please explain this to me?
I work in the restaurant industry in a very liberal area in the the South. Most of my employees are very young, which would also explain why they are liberals. Sorry...cheap shot. I want to sponsor a needy family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I went to the employees and asked the servers if they could donate a dollar a shift over the next two months to support this cause. I also said that I would match what they raised. Most of them did not want to do this because they didn't think it was their responsibility. Who's is it? Government's? Can someone explain the mentality here? I just get irked when I see this behavior.

Thanks for the excuses of not helping others out. By the way, most of the opposition came from students that come from upper middle class families that can afford to give. They would rather spend it going out getting drunk. Thank you for proving my point."

if you want to "help" a needy family, go ahead, just don't expect to ram your ideas down other people's throats. Who knows, one of those workers could be from a "needy" family.

I am a medical director and have an employee who is new..Her brother is dying and she had no vacation time.... i keep my politics separate from my work but my clinical managers often talk politics daily.....Anyway.. ...
To get the new manager paid time off through corporate I had to go all Clinical department (who typically are loaded with comp.. time and are willing to help).... I asked 9 department heads who all had over 400 hours of paid time off they they were free to do whatever with..... Of the 9 department heads... 4 are Democrats... 4 are Republicans ..and the other I have no Idea...probably neither...Hers is how the donation of time broke down...This happened on 10/30/2006...The Democrats collectively donated 240 hours...The Republicans donated 60 hours ( 2 of which said they had earned that time and were not giving it away)and the unknown guy donated 20.... So that is recent and made a huge point about selflessness and a concern for their colleagues... What I was hearing for the Republicans ..oratlest what it reminds me of is...Why should I have to pay for those who have made bad choices...sound familiar....

I know the feeling.
Last Christmas I went to a church in my town and asked to help a family. I figured it was my money and I had a right to asked that it be used to satisfy certain conditions I set. I was told I would be contacted, I am still waiting, it has been nearly a year, I think I'll move on.
Please understand, I wanted to give someone a hand-up. I am an Atheist and can't recall the last satisfactory interaction I have had with a Christian. And, I damn sure ain't going to drop off a few hundred dollars for some preacher to pocket. All he would have had to do was call me and someone would have had help but no call no help.

If the young are generally liberals , does it mean that nowadays nobody join your party ?? The new generation don't like being with you??
And when you want to do a 'good' thing why other's don't see it much attractive? Do you want your employees/subordinates to subscribe to your views all the time irrespective of what they think??
Do you think what you do is Always right because you are the top guy there??
Like we are doing the world a great favour by getting rid of dictators and WMDs. Why don't you join?? we wil fix Saddam but won't touch Musharaff in pakistan. We will fix iraq whether WMD or not but won't touch Israel , Iran and DPRK even when they test nukes. Even when they say they are prepared to attack the US.
And When you want to do good things , are you always selective?? If the young liberals want to do good acts of their own , are you going to join up?? Have you always given donations to people whoever asked for whatever causes???

many well to do students are doing just what you should expect. they were raised in an atmosphere of gratifification, not one of need. those who have known need are far more likely to give than those who have never had any needs but had everything they wanted whenever they wanted it.
the liberal talks a good game, and the conservative preaches a good deal, but only someone who has needed and not had is really able to hold any kind of values which are of benefit to others.

I would be willing to bet about $1,000 that the guy has no clue about any of the following:
1. his empolyees ACTUAL political leanings... and he's just assuming that because they are in college they are liberal.. one or two may have actual liberal leanings, but most likely they all do not...
2. how much money they ACTUALLY HAVE... one or two may be rich and it's apparent, but he most likely has no clue of the financial state they are in... how many rich kids work in college? Zero that I knew?
3. maybe they donnate somewhere else and don't trust him with their money... he has no clue...
HE CLEARLY THINKS THAT THEY ARE ALL LITTLE BASTARDS... AND I'M SURE HE CONSTANTLY SHOWS IT...
would you trust someone like that?

If you are the boss why are you asking your employees to donate to your cause? You can surely afford to do it without taking money from them. I am sure they are offended that you expect them to donate some of their pay back to you for your own choice of a charity.

Why expect others to do what interests you? Can they trust you? Why and how do they know the can? Better volunteer to help with groups in your area that are providing food for needy families.
It's you that feel the need to help, instead of expecting others to do what you feel needs to be done start doing it yourself.

Well, you could say the same about my question, that you like so much, since essentially I made the people who argue such, either decide, "Well that argument is flawed," or "Men don't get a choice because nothing is equal"-which then implies discrimination is fair, and we can be discriminate when we chose. All's fair in my opinion, if it is logical
