I am having a c-section in a few weeks and someone told me a spinal block was the worst pain ever. Is that true? My doc told me at the last visit I would have a spinal instead of an epidural, so just wondering what it is really like.

I had a spinal when I had my son via c-sect and because numbing medicine doesn't work on me...yea it hurt tons. As long as they numb u, it should not be bad.

Does A Spinal Block Hurt

the difference between the spinal and the epidural is not in the pain of the injection. the epidural numbs you from below the chest down and the spinal numbs you from a little higher up. If the doctor accidentally hits a nerve during the initial injection it's somewhat like being shocked and isn't fun. Otherwise, to me they are the same. Don't spend time worrying about it. It won't change anything if you have to have a c-section. Besides, it literally only lasts a second. Good luck and enjoy your new baby.

I was in full labour when I got an epidural and because of the contractions I never felt it. My cousin had an epidural while in full labour and never felt it either, but when she had her second baby she had a spinal block while not in full labour for a c-section and she said she felt more pain. I was in the room with her and by the time the doctors had her ready to start and they brought me in, she told me she had forgot all about it because she was thinking more about the baby. Good luck. Congrads.

didn't hurt me AT ALL. just a small prick in your back a couple of times and then you are numb from about the armpits down. the worst part was when they put the IV in my arm. the spinal didn't last that long either, so you aren't numb forever, just until after the c-section.

It didn't hurt at all when I had mine done. Just relax and that will help out a lot. Good luck and congratulations on the new baby!

I have had two and they arent that bad. All i felt was a little tingle and that was it. i think just the thought of it makes it that bad, but it really isnt. just try to relax ( i know its hard) but try. It will probably make it a little better.
