We'd like to get our neighbour something for Christmas. He's active, still works, goes to the gym 4 times a week, and likes chinese food.
Would a jumper be a good idea, or is it boring?

I think if you would really like to touch your neighbor's heart, what you should do is find out what some of his other interests are. Then, make him a little basket of assorted personals. Include a gift certificate to a restaurant he likes, perhaps an old movie that he enjoyed a long time ago that's been released on DVD again, an outdoors magazine and water bottle, and a homemade voucher that he can "cash" for a dinner or get-together at your house sometime. This way, it's a gift that really reaches him as a person, and continues to give, showing how much he meant to you and how thoughtful you are.

A jumper is a little boring!
Does he have much family of his own? If not then a meal at your place with your family could be just the thing (could even make it take-out from his fave chinese).
As a gift idea you said that he goes to the gym 4 times a week. Why not get him a gift certificate to the gym that he uses. He could use it towards new gym clothes or put it toward his next years membership fees.....

Well, being from America I've never called a sweater a jumper, but yes I think that is a good idea - or gift cards to a Chinese food place or a windbreaker/hooded fleece for when he goes to the gym or gym bag.

How about checking around to find a place that makes some good old fashioned Apple Cider, nicely gift wrapped it would look and smell divine, plus a cheese, fruit tray.
If he likes chinese food, pick up a gift booklet from his favorite chinese restaurant.
A new gym bag filled with accessories, like foot scrub, foot powder, shower gel etc.

Do you know if he cooks? Perhaps he might like a wok and
some Chinese ingredients.
A bottle of good whiskey
A magazine subscription
I don't think a jumper is neccessarily boring, he might like a sporty sweatshirt
Does he have a sense of fun, then he might like these hand warmers

Maybe he would like a Cd of some old songs.
A jumper is not boring, I like presents that you can keep for memory rather than a dinner invitation

A nice fruit or food basket. Not too big. One person can eat only so much, ya know.
or
Gift Certificate to a Chinese restaurant. Better yet, take him to dinner.

Don't know what a jumper is, but a gift certificate to a Chinese restaurant would be good.
Or a 65 year old woman?

You could always get him a gift card to his favorite chinese restaurant, but I think a nice track outfit would be good too. If he lives alone and doesnt have family close, then you could always invite him over too. That would be a great gift.
