I stay in calcutta, west bengal, india.I don't know how to shop online using a credit card.If I buy some product online by my credit card from a company in say,U.S.A./U.K.,say a non-pirated computer software from the homepage of the manufacturer,-is there any risk that my credit card no. will be hacked even if i use PAYPAL or other such services? (i don't know how genuine this services are)
How to ensure that only the amount of the product including shipping, packaging etc. charges is debited from my credit card & not all the money in my credit card account is debited? That is how to ensure that i am not cheated?
What to do if i don't get the product or the product is not working-how to sue the company when i am in a different country & don't have enough money to go there to settle the problem?
I hope my question is clear...
Please help me

nothing is perfect, but the odds of something happening are VERY SLIM. almost all sites out there that accept credit cards are encrypted and are difficult to hack into.
I do not think you have anything to worry about, unless you are everyday, purchasing from multiple websites. I have been buying stuff on the internet using paypal, and private websites without a hitch. its really not scary :)

When you buyonline there is always a risk, there are some simple things you can do.
First check your computer for spyware/malware/adware so your computer is clean of programs that keep track of your key log.
The second is to check the page when you give out your information. Look at the bottom and see if there is a small lock. If you see a small lock on the bottom then that means the site is encrypted so anything you send to there side can not be read by anyone else but there computer.
(When you put credit info or paypal and you do not see a small lock on the bottom screen that means that site is not secure and anyone could take the information you put in.)
Third Email them. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK! Everyone wants your business and if they are a real business they will answer any questions before purchase. If they know there stuff and if they can answer some questions then you can buy from them.
Some of the Following questions you can email or online chat with them:
1. What is your policy on refund or if the product doesn't work
2. How do I know if it will work with my computer?
3. Is there a warintee if I buy the product?
4. Can I do money order or checks?
5. Will there be a shipping charge or fees?
You can come up with more if you have any yourself.
Paypal warning for first timers: Paypal has the most fake email's be warned if you get an email that says Dear Paypal user your account has been... (It is a fake) If you go to Paypal's website they will greet you by your name not Paypal coustumer. Whatever you do DO NOT click on the link in the email. Go to paypal website yourself and check it

Do or Die
Well known online stores use secure encryption for the credit card transactions.
If you are not happy with the product, each store will have their own return policy...(Terms to be Read) of each store. You can also dispute any bogus charges with your credit card company. You can also track the charges on your credit card to make sure no bogus charges have occurred. It is very safe as long as you are careful.
Check for any online stores in India before you buy abroad.
in future, its all through only card

there's always a risk, even if you use your card in a store. most places on the web are safer now then a year ago. look for a little pic of a lock at the bottum of the page when entering card info, if no lock go somewhere else. dont go to e-bay or places like that. give your credit card company a call and ask where on the web they've had problems.

If you deal with a reputable company you will have no problem. Sites like manufacturers sites as well as well known dealers will be fine. If you are charged for something you did not get you can DISPUTE the charge if you pay with a credit card.. Happy shopping!!

I can notsay all the methods are free from risk. But let me give you more information on PAYPAL , that will be useful to you...!PayPal is one of the most popular online money transfer systems widely used for online auctions, pay to surf programs, e-books and purchase of low value goods. It is now a part of the online auction website eBay. More details available at http://www.money-transfer.in/paypalindia.html
