I do not think that society puts enough emphasis on intelligence. If there were a greater stress on intelligence, then people would see the faulty logic in listening to actors talking about politics or athletes discussing philosophy. I am not saying that neither athletes nor actors can be knowledgeable, but intelligent individuals would not be influenced by people talking about something in which they are not well-educated.
It is also sad how some schools will hold back gifted and intelligent students from reaching their potential because they lack the appropriate honors and gifted programs.

You mean Does society? Not really......you need a lot of intelligence, who wants to be around a bunch of stupid people? Now a days the world is so advanced if your not intelligent your out of the running. It's not that hard to get a quality education....unless your just lazy or "don't have time" to educate yourself.......

No we put too much emphasis on the physical aspects which due to the changes in technology has become irrelevant to fittness for survival. The only aspect that technology has not made irrelevant is intelligence, thus it is the modern superior gene.

I think society puts down anyone who is intelligent. The White House sends a mixed message. They want each child to read at grade level, but I've also heard them put down intellectuals. In fact I think this country glorifies ignorance.
