Of course. It lead to genetic isolation, then evolution which gave us new species. Look at the ratities as an example.

According to the modern theory of evolution, this would cause the development of new species by Isolation and geographic distribution. Basically, it is separating the gene pools creating different pathways for evolutionary change.

Different Land Masses floated to different parts of the world, and these different parts had different weather. This caused, different life forms to evolve differently
