Magnum C's answer is actually reflects an argument that's been circulating in herpetoculturalist circles for a good long time. The reason is because of the similar stats:
Reticulated Python = Up to 33 feet and 300 plus pounds.
Green Anaconda = Up to 33 feet and 330 plus pounds.

These are rare individual snakes, of course: It'd be like aliens finding Micheal Jordan, and concluding that all human beings exceed six feet in length. Most captive reticulated pythons rarely exceed 15 feet in length, while green anacondas average 10-15 feet. There are some that argue that the Burmese Python (Python molurus bivittatus) is the world's THIRD largest, at an average of 15-20 feet maximum size and 200 plus pounds. But after the smoke clears, either way you've got some pretty good sized animals!

An anaconda could be everywhere from 10 to 18 ft, with very uncommon cases of extensive 25 footers. yet their mass dwarfs that of any Python. individually, i think of the Reticulated Python is a lots cooler snake! to no longer knock the Anaconda, nevertheless...
