It shouldn't fall out, but the hole will close to form the new gauge. I had mine pierced with an 18 I believe, and i took it out and couldn't get it back in. so I put a 20 gauge in there so the hole wouldn't close completely, and i went back to my piercer. He forced it through and I have not touched it since.

I had to wait until I was 16 until my mom would take it. I'd say 16 is very reasonable. In MA I don't think they will pierce any minors besides ears but I live right near NH so I just went up there and got it done but my mom needed a birth certifcate for me and myself and proper ID. Mine never got infected, it just started to sink in a little the first week but it fixed itself. I've had for a year and I love it. You kind of forget you have it though. The only part that hurt was when they slid the jewlery in. They didn't use a cork, just a needle. I have no idea how long they kept the needle in, probably 30 seconds tops? I can take it out & put it back in now that it is healed. I've had it for a year and can leave it out overnight without it closing up. They pierced me with a 20 G needle I think but I had to stretch to the normal 18G because I couldn't find many 20G studs. Studs don't rust. I buy mine at Hot Topic and Spencers and Claire's. I use metal and plastic ones. And finally, no, blood will not come out of the hole. Neither will boogers.

well it depends on how long
you've had the 18 gauge in there,
if it's been up to three weeks,
then just take it out for a night
and then in the morning, put in the 20.
that should work.
my friend had her ear gauged at
a six (she did it for a guy--how lame)
and then when she got over him,
she took it out and within a day
(maybe two, maybe) she had a
14 back in there..i'm not sure if ears
are very different from noses, but
i would assume there wouldn't be too
much of a difference..
i have my ears gauged to a zero,
i wanna go down to a 1/2 and inch,
but i don't want it to get all wrinkly
and gross and flabby when i grow up..
hmm,
good luck : )

because a nostril is closer to being like cartilage, if you put a smaller stud in anytime before it's fully healed (at least 6 months) then the piercing will close round the smaller jewellery and you'll be left with a smaller piercing.
if you wear a 18g stud until it's fully healed though, you have a better chance of being able to wear either 18g OR 20g size studs because your piercing has healed at a larger size.
my advice is wear a 18g stud for 6 months until it heals then you have alot more options in terms of new jewellery down the line.
