Any malfunction of your brakes can be very dangerous. My advice it to make a close inspection of the problem wheel. You did not mention whether it was the front or back wheel that is the problem. In the Front, you should also make sure that the wheel bearings are in good shape. Any grease on the linings can also cause grabbing. Be careful and don't put off the inspection.

No info. on what you are driving. Make, year, model. I would suspect you have drum brakes on the rear wheels and you have a brake fluid leak. It could cause your brakes to lock and lose control. Look on inside of your wheels and see if there is any indication of oil or brake fluid on your wheels.

Better have them checked.. Usually means your pads are worn out and there metal to metal. Does it make a grinding noise when you brake?

It is. It makes it much more likely you'll lock up less than all four wheels, and go into a spin.
