to refer to something as Jiggaboo? My husband uses this term and swears it isn't racist but I think it is! He'll tell me the new CD I bought is "jiggaboo" or an outfit I'm wearing looks "jiggaboo" In your opinion is this a racist term?

If you're asking if he's being derogatory, then yes. Anytime a person labels various things they don't like with a specific term, especially one with racial ties (where, at the very least, the connotation is racist), then they can be considered to be using a racial slur. In this case, that term is connected to people of African-American or black heritage, and in short, yes, he should stop saying it.

If you are feeling that this might be racist or inappropriate then it probably is. We are torn between PC gone to the extreme and testing the boundaries. I have friends from all different cultures and they have all heard people in passing or co-worker make those types of comments and shrug it off as just the way things are. I personally think we have gone from saying things outright as hateful racist slur to hiding behind "humour" or "modern day slang". I think common sense has to kick in. We shouldn't have to second guess every comment that comes out of our mouth, but think about some of the things we are saying and the real reasons we are saying them.I don't think it should ever be COOL to use racist slang.

Watch the original movie "Police Academy" A white dude calls a black lady a "dumb fat jiggaboo" & it pisses off a black dude that was there.

It's one of the most racist terms you could say to a black person.
Something like 'homey' isn't racist.
