I restarted my Powerbook G4 and the airport card is no longer being recognized. I checked to make sure it was installed correctly still and it looks good from what I can tell. What would cause it to stop being recognized all the sudden? Whan I do to make it work again?

The most likely thing is that it simply got physically bumped out of place. If you live near an Apple store, you should be able to bring it into a Genius bar and they'll be able to help you check it out. If not, and you're feeling confident, just unplug, remove battery, open it up (I forget exactly how on Powerbooks -- only done it on iBooks: probably the same place where you go to mess with RAM) and make sure the card is firmly in its slot (it'll have a prominent airport logo on it).

Otherwise, might want to try firmware updates. If all else fails, you can probably get a new card off eBay-- not terrible expensive.

Hi tomato,

I'm sorry to hear about your AirPort problems. Before checking out the hardware, maybe you can check out the software first.

Have you tried checking out the Internet Connect.app software that is located in the Applications folder? You may have set up your Mac to use the internal modem instead of the AirPort card.

There is also the AirPort Setup Assistant? It's located in the Utilities folder and is for re-setting up AirPort. Best of luck to you.
