was on the pill for 2 years, before taking it everyday started making me nauseous and extra crampy. i've been off of them for over a year. i've been considering going back on b/c, and i am aware of other non-oral options but i'm curious as to other women's opinions of them and how they liked or didn't like them.

I'm on the NuvaRing and I love it! Been on it since February. If you don't mind putting your fingers in your vagina, this is the best option. The dose is lower because it's administered intravaginally where there are lots of blood vessels. So that's a good thing! Also, you can't feel it, and you can leave it in for 4 weeks. I do, so I have a 5 week cycle. During sex, my partner usually doesn't feel it. Sometimes it overstimulates him so I take it out, but no big deal. It can be out for up to 3 hours and it's not hard to put in. Taking it out takes a good 15 seconds but that's ok. I like not having to remember to take something everyday.

It lies in your vagina flat, and for me, it kind of gets suctioned up to the top wall of my vagina, so it just stays there and that's why it's out of the way during sex.

It's pretty cool! You could try it and if you don't like it try something else. :)

I was on the depo shot for about a year- I never STOPPED having a period... I had a period every day for about 9 months- I also had extreme (unhealthy) weight loss and hair loss. I stopped the shot and then I got pregnant (on purpose). After I had the baby, my period started again and lasted about 6 more months. I had a laparoscopy and found out that I had severe endometriosis and that the depo may have had something to do with it. Now I'm on Lupron for 6 months... I think I may try an IUD after this- several of my friends have them and they think they are great. My other friend uses the nuva ring and says she will never use anything else... she says it is very comfortable- she does not feel it at all. The worst part is putting it in she says.

My mother put me on the shot (depo-provera) when I was 15-18.
She was scared that I would come home and tell her I was pregnant. She didnt trust me to take the pill everyday. The great thing was that I didnt have a period for 3 years! When I got off of it, it took about 6 months for my periods to start back up again. I just had to go in to the dr. every three months and get my shot that didnt hurt and that was it.

how about an iud implant its cheaper than the pill and the planned parenthoods do them for a very reasonable price they have to kinds the minera one with the hormones or the copper iud they can last anywhere between 5-12 years no pills to worry about taking and no maintainance except to check the string once a month and since ive had my iud ive lost weight and went down a bra size

The depo-provera shot scares me. It has way too many side effects. I'd try the Nuva ring if I were you. Condoms suck and are not as effective as hormones! Only use them if you need sti protection.

Also, some other brands of the pill might not have the side effect of nausea for you.

I was on the depo shot for about 5 years! the best thing about that for me was no time of the month! for 5 years!! but, I gained about 10 pounds also. I liked the shot, it was very convenient for me. I couldn't afford it after awhle though! went from $15 to $65.

Heard lots of bad things about that IUD so I wouldnt even suggest that to anyone!

There are patches out there now, and I am sure something even newer than that.

Good luck!

I was on Depo Provera for 4 years. I had a constant light period through three 1/2 years of it, which my doctor told me was "normal". Male doctor, of course. When it stopped for 6 months, I was happy with it... until I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, which is WHY it stopped. Also, it lowers your sex drive (it's what they give to sex offenders to curb their appetites, for pete's sake!), plus if you're on it for more than 5 years, your chances of breast cancer go up by 200 percent! Who needs that? Make him use a condom!

If you have not had any children please do not get an IUD - I thought I wanted one and my ob didn't want to give me one because I had not had any children so I told him that I would go elsewhere and get one so he gave in - it was the most pain full - miserable three weeks of my life before I finally had it taken back out and then it was another week before I stopped hurting completely
