The divorce rate is getting higher. Why? Should we prevent this?

I think as the age for marriage continues to get younger, the divorce rate will continue to skyrocket. People are marrying before they have had a chance to grow up and figure out who they are. If you fall in love with someone at nineteen, there is no way they are going to be the same person at twenty five. Plus, people are marrying based on initial attraction, but there has to be more than that to back it up or else in a year or two, you won't have anything to survive with except that initial attraction which has usually worn off.

Who cares what the divorce rate is? Maybe we should find a way to reduce the rate of marriages if they're going to end anyway. I have known people who spent twenty years or more together who were happier than any married couple I've known, they just never took the jump. I've known people who were married less than a year before it all fell apart. Maybe divorce is over used because marriage is too.

Sometimes people divorce for stupid reasons, or they don't want to put the work into it to fix the problems, but the world is not all black and white. Some people have insinuated that if someone gets a divorce it's because they didn't take their vows seriously, or they don't care, but as someone already mentioned, sometimes it can't be avoided. Sometimes it is a safety issue. That's why I got divorced from my 1st husband. He beat the sh*t out of me on a regular basis. I did take my vows seriously.....he didn't.

In my case, I divorced for my own safety. There was nothing in the world that was going to change our relationship. He was horribly abusive and didn't think he was doing anything wrong. I think that people should hold their marriage vows very high and not just give up and let divorce be the answer. In some situations, it is really what is best.

People don't take their vows seriously. They actually go into the marriage with the attitude..."If if doesn't work out....I'll just get a divorce".

You have to go into marriage with the attitude..."This is it. This is my spouse for life...no matter what and it's going to take a lot of work...there will be ups and downs but divorce is NOT an option."

People forget "till death do us part". They don't give a ****. And almost everyone follows their heart these days, not their heads. If you think about it, marriage is a "commitment". Trust me after the honeymoon its all over and its true. Life isn't all good times and full of love. I realize the truth now that I'm married. The feeling of commitment is a better feeling than love. And all you married people know what I'm talkin about.

If it didn't matter then there wouldn't be so much devistation... It definately matters.
You'll get plenty of opinions with this question but mine alone is that it's because ppl marry for the wrong reasons.... They don't have a clue what commitment means...what loyalty means.... what respect for the other means....what honoring themselves and their love means....

That question cannot be answered quickly. But here are the leaders.....infidelity, "starter marriage" syndrome and un-realistic expectations.
