If you smoke, quit.

Reduce intake of salt, alcohol, caffeine, red meats, and other fatty foods, sweets and refined sugar.

Other tips:
Practice stress management: many of the symptoms of PMS are unpredictable and emotionally draining. This can be very stressful and can make your PMS worse.

Regular exercise may reduce your risk of PMS altogether; exercising once you have symptoms (even though you may not feel like it) will reduce the symptoms you experience for that cycle; reduces stress and tension.

Take a daily, non-prescription multi-vitamin; discuss any other supplement needs with your physician.

Be sure to get an adequate daily intake of calcium (1,200 mg/day).

Eat a well balanced diet; don’t skip meals. Eat several small meals a day to minimize blood sugar fluctuations.

Try to get regular, sufficient sleep.

Because women are usually retaining fluid before and during their period, it's a good idea to stay away from salty foods, which will add to the problem. It's the dark oil found in coffee and cocoa beans, that causes problems for women, not the caffeine. That oil adds to breast tenderness and enlarged nodes in breast tissue so it's a good idea to go easea on coffee, dark pop, and chocolate. Other than that, I eat what I want, offen heavy on the carbs (feel-good food). Fruits and veggies would be better; they provide a lot of nutrients and some have anti-oxidant properties.

This is from a website listed below:

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
Self-care
You can manage or sometimes reduce the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome by making changes in the way you eat, exercise and approach daily life. Try these approaches:

Modify your diet
* Eat smaller, more frequent meals each day to reduce bloating and the sensation of fullness.
* Limit salt and salty foods to reduce bloating and fluid retention.
* Choose foods high in complex carbohydrates, such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
* Choose foods rich in calcium. If you can't tolerate dairy products or aren't getting adequate calcium in your diet, you may need a daily calcium supplement.
* Take a daily multivitamin supplement.
* Avoid caffeine.
* Avoid alcohol.
Incorporate exercise into your regular routine
Engage in brisk walking, cycling, swimming or other aerobic activity most days of the week. Regular daily exercise can help improve your overall health and alleviate symptoms such as fatigue and a depressed mood.
Reduce stress
* Get plenty of sleep.
* Practice progressive muscle relaxation or deep-breathing exercises to help reduce headaches, anxiety or trouble sleeping (insomnia).
Record your symptoms for a few months
Keep a record to identify the triggers and timing of your symptoms. This will allow you to intervene with strategies that may help to lessen them.

Anything with caffine is not very good, such as: chocolate, soda, and tea
I always crave chocolate during my period so I dont follow that!
These can increase your cramps
Also the worst thing you can do is lay in bed all day. This will just make your symptoms worse. I would get out of the house and go shopping.
