Removing and Installing Ink Cartridges
Be sure you have a new ink cartridge before you begin. Once you start the ink cartridge replacement procedure, you must complete all the steps in one session.

Make sure the EPSON Stylus CX5400 is turned on and not printing. The LCD screen tells you which ink cartridge is low or empty.
If your EPSON Stylus CX5400 is low on ink, press the left Menu button until you see Change Cartridge, then press the Color Copy button.

If your EPSON Stylus CX5400 is out of ink, press the Color Copy button.

The ink cartridges move to the replacement position.

Lift up the scanner.

Pinch the tabs on the front and back of the cartridge, lift it out of the printer, and dispose of it carefully.

Before you remove the new cartridge from its package, shake it four or five times.

Unwrap the new ink cartridge and lower it into its holder, then press down on the top of the cartridge until it clicks in place.
Caution: Don't touch the green circuit board on the back of the cartridge; you may inhibit normal operation and printing.

If you need to replace other ink cartridges, repeat steps 4 through 6 before continuing with step 7.

Carefully lower the scanner and press it down until it clicks into place. The EPSON Stylus CX5400 begins charging the ink delivery system.
The On light flashes and the EPSON Stylus CX5400 makes noise. Charging takes about 30 seconds. When it's finished, the On light stops flashing and stays on.

Caution: Never turn off the EPSON Stylus CX5400 while the On light is flashing, unless the Stylus CX hasn't moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.

every printer is different. see if you can find the manual. With the HP printers I have used, I open the door on the front. I let the machine rearrange the print heads so I can reach them. When it stops moving, I unlatch whatever is holding the cartridge in, and I slide out the cartridge. Make sure you recycle these. HP cartridges come with a prepaid envelope for doing it. Slide the replacement cartridge into the slot and close everything up in reverse of taking it out.

If it's an HP then you have to Lift the door to the cartridges and the cartridges will move to the entrance to that door. Then lift the little doors on top of each cartridge and grab the cartridge and pull it out. Do that for both b&w and color. Put the new ones back in the same way and close down the little doors so they click in place and then close the door to the cartridges so they will move back in the printer. The printer should then give you instructions on what to do and how to align.

Hope that helps.

1. READ the users Manual.
2. Follow the Directions in the User Manual.
3. Remove and Replace old cartridges.

Besides, there's no way of telling you how to do it because you didn't say what the make or model was....LOL

Follow the instructions that came w/printer. It's easy....pull out cartridge, get new one that is proper/fits the device, remove tape on contacts, insert. click in/snap in....and print alignment/test copy....then all set to go....when all else fails, follow the directions...believe me it is easy!!!!
