Political philosophers such as Plato and Edmund Burke believe that political leaders are often forced to lie to protect the public. Do you agree with this? Does a Christian politician have a right to lie if revealing the truth might cause harm? Why or why not?

I would hope that no political leader would lie, but I would be foolish to expect behavior we can find in no one. Even religious leaders have been caught in cover ups & lies.

All truth would most likely scare most of us & if everything about the country's security was told we would be less safe. What we know, everyone throughout the world knows. It does not dawn on a lot of people that terrorist has Internet & satellite. So I guess there are times they must lie.

Why does the politician have to be Christian?

Political Philosophy is exactly that. Philosophy. Lying politicians are punished. Two cases in point, Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton. Nixon lied about his knowledge of Watergate and Clinton lied about a number things ranging from how Somalia was handled to how he seduced and defiled Monica Lewinsky. Both reaped the rewards of their lies. The truth, no matter how painful, shall set you free. Faulty Intelligence is not a lie, it is faulty information. By the way, if you are heading down the road of Bush lied, refresh yourself on the Democrats history of lying by researching both the Bay of Pigs and the Gulf of Tonkin. Then toss that stone.

there are many forms of a lie, as well as the truth. But a lie out right is a lie. One can tell some of the truth and still maintain secrets that can cause harm or pain, but to lie to make it better or easier is just wrong.

Yes I agree.

No one has a right to lie, where did that come from? Just because a couple hundred to a thousand year old dead intellectuals said it's ok to lie to the public doesn't give modern day politicians a "right" to....anything!

Politicians lie for self preservation, nothing more.

It depends on the situation. You cant make an assumption on something when you dont know exactly what it is. Generally know the more information people have the better thats not always going to be able to happen though.
