He has a 5 yr old and a 2 yr old at home and just decided to quit his job and go to trucker school. Now he is gone all week and pops in on the weekends and takes off again.
Do you think he is planning on leaving his wife and kids, or is he just stupid?

I think he is selfish. When you have children and a wife, you put them first. You do not just up and quit one job to study for another possible career. You continue to work while you go to school ensuring you have income at all times so that you may provide for your family. He sounds immature and selfish and she should learn how to make ends meet by herself now so she doesn't have to worry about keeping the flake.

It's certainly not the life for a family man. I understand that those who become truckers love the job or really hate it. Most enjoy the open road and the freedom they feel just driving. Perhaps this fellow really needs the money to support his family and can't find much better. You said he quit a well-paying job... but will he make more as a trucker? Or perhaps the insurance at his current job was inadequate for his family needs... and as a trucker his insurance will be better. Perhaps he had a poor performance review, didn't get a raise, and feels like his days are numbered at the well paying job. One can never know the reasons... unless you ask.

Long haul truckers can make pretty good money, up to 6 figures if they have a good partner (one drives, one sleeps, they go across country non-stop...) Even still maybe it was worth a pay cut to him if he was really unhappy in the other job, stressed out and angry all the time... HOWEVER if he just up and quit a stable job without discussing it with his wife first - that's a SERIOUS problem & she should call the lawyer now (likewise not discussing it with him first...)

My father was a truck driver for 13 years. Yes, truckers are gone all week and you are dumb to think otherwise unless he got a job like hauling logs or something like that. But as a rule, freight truck drivers are gone all week. My dad came home on Friday nights and left sunday nights from before he married my mom until we were into our teens. Truck drivers, if they have any ambition at all can do really well financially. I think you are the stupid one for thinking that a truck driver wants to leave his wife just because he quit his " well paying job" to go trucking. He's doing it for his family. Leave him alone and let him do it. From the sounds of things he's not your husband so who gives a f*uck!

Well paying jobs are often really stressful and stress kills harder than violence because its not seen. He is neither leaving his family or being particularily stupid, rather, he may be a very wiseman. For one thing, a CDL is worth its weight in gold and shows honor to all involved in the industry. If he buys his own truck, his family will be able to travel with him and what a wonderful way to see more than the daily commute. Be thankful you have such a brave man by supporting his change of jobs, it may be for the better!

He is stupid AND planning to leave his wife and kids, already has.................maybe plans to get more wives and kids in various towns.
Maybe just wants to be "on the road again" like Willie.

Hope his "first wife" is not you. If so, take the initiative, give him and talking to and/or call your lawyer.
