24 = -2 (b-3)+8
24 = -2b + 6 + 8
24 = -2b + 14
subtract both sides by 14 to get rid of the 14
10 = -2b
divide both sides by -2 to get rid of the -2
therefore b = -5

distribute the -2 across across the (b-3) in parenthesis to get -2b+6 then add your 8. After you add the 8 it should look like 24=-2b+14, now subtract 14 from both sides to get, 10=-2b+0, you can now drop the zero because it does not add to the question so it will look like, 10=-2b, i am assuming you want to find (b) so divide both sides by -2. it should then look like -5=b. So that is your answer, b=-5.

B=3

First
-2(b-3) distributes as -2b+6

So then you have
24=-2b+6+8b

Then
-2b+8b=6b

So then we have
24=6b+6

Next subtract 6 from both sides to get
18=6b

Last divide both sided by 6 to get
3=b, or b=3

Pay no attention to anyone else this is the Answer.

24=-2(b-3)
24= -2b+6+8
24= -2b+14
24-14=-2b
10= -2b
10/-2=b
-5=b
answer: b=-5

If I'm reading this correctly (is the last term 8b?)
24=-2b+6+8b
18=6b
b=3

_________
10=-2b
/-2 /-2
_______
-5= b

(minus the 8 and the 6 from each side of the equation, thats why i wrote it twice... that way you can keep track of the equation and make sure that it works out)
Develope a system that you always do with this type of equation, that way its easier to work through them!

Let me show you the steps to solve this problem.

24 = -2(b-3)+8b
24 = (-2b+6)+8b
24 = (-2b+8b)+6
24-6 = -2b+8b
-2b+8b = 24-6
6b = 18
b = 18/6
b = 3

Try to figure out how i do these as you will not learn anything if i explain every steps to you.
If you still cannot understand,you may ask me.

24-8=-2(b-3)
16/-2 = (b-3)
-8 = b-3
-8+3=b
-5=b
