Get a cd-rom for typing. Mavis Beacon is a great program but I'm sure other typing programs will do. If you don't have one, try practice typing at www.typingtest.com. Believe it or not, instant messaging can also speed up your typing over time, depends on if you really try or not, but it worked for my cousin. Play typing games on the internet. Just keep typing and typing and typing, but not at the same pace of course. Try typing faster each time. Good luck!

Touch typing is the best thing you can learn to do, i covered my hands with a tea towl and learnt row by row to touch type (starting with your home keys on the middle line). I will try and find out the name of our typing programme we used when i was in school, as even to this day, where ever i go, i am usually the most accomplished with the keyboard...Just saw someone else anwered with Mavis Beacon Typing programme, that is what we used, and i reckon to this day is the most efficent in teaching touch typing!
If you are going to use chat rooms etc, make sure you use your grammer and punctuation, or it will then roll over into your typing...
