I love halloween, but why do we celebrate it and get candy.

Besides being another good reason to party, it is a time when the walls between worlds become thin and the dead can reach into the living realm.

Candy represents the sweetness of life, while the scary images help us the face our fears about death and dying. The celebration is either Celtic or Pagan, and predates Christianity.

Tradition, fun, it's fun to get or act a bit spooky for one night, it creates a lighter view of death and such things so it's a way for people to face an inevitable concept but from a different and less scary perspective because (despite scary decorations) it makes light of it...and what ever other reasons there could be.
