They are both from the same taxonomic order, 2 different families. They are very closely related... The family Crocodyloidea consists of about a dozen or so crocodile species... The family Alligatoroidea consists of caiman (from South America, don't remember how many species... 4 or 5???) and the only 2 true Alligator species. the American Alligator and the Chinese Alligator. And yes, the two do co-exist. Alligators are almost strictly freshwater animals, while crocodiles have salt glands that enable them to inhabit fresh, brackish, and salt water.

As far as how dangerous they are... Either one has the capacity to kill you, but some crocodile species get much larger, and alligators are usually considered pretty placid animals that just want to be left alone.

Here's an AWESOME resource, I love it to death.

they are the same but differ in two things: the jaws, and their size, crocodiles are much bigger, so they are related and both are very dangerous, their jaws are different though, the croc has its jaws in a rounded form, and the alligator in a triangle form, so if you get bitten by a crocodile your wound would be bigger, but if you are bitten by a gator you'll probably be more injured near the bone. The croc bite is bigger but the gator one is deeper. so is more dangerous the bit of an alligator. answering the second question they are in separate parts of the world, crocs prefer swamps, and alligators, rivers, though this answer is not 100% true because there are crocs at Nilo River, and gators in amazonas' swamps...

Crocodiles are known for being far more aggressive than Alligators. The only place in the world they co-exist is in Florida, I believe.

They are related, but cannot breed. They are crocodilians which include alligators, crocodiles, gharials, caimen, etc.

Crocs are the most aggressive, they are also a good bit larger. They can coexist in some places, such as Florida...they may not relax on the riverbank together, they're not exactly friends.
