I only ask because I was in a store that had some for sale and I asked the clerk if they bite and she told me it just feels like a kitten nibbling on you. I have never had a ferret so I was wondering if this is true or not.

It all depends why the ferret is biting--if it is scared or being teased and bites it has teeth so any bite can hurt but if its just playing /playfully nipping then it wouldn't hurt. Before you buy a pet from a pet store call the Humane Society-your parents can help for all the animals they rescue-even ferrets are all up on their shots, usually fixed and have all been tested by specialists to make sure they would make a good and safae pet. Those in pet store have no shots and are handled and exposed to all kinds of germs and quite a few end up being sick once they are brought home.

They don't tickle, that's for sure.

It depends how hard they bite and where. (Kitten mouths are about the same size and strength, so it's probably a good comparison, but a pissed off kitten can certainly draw blood, too).
The clerk may have meant that those particular ferrets were mostly gentle and only "nibbled," how well socialized they are with people plays a big role in their likliness to bite.

Seriously depends on the mood the ferret is in... I had one leave a gash in my arm about 4 inches long and it bled forever..... but ferrets can be great pets too! Just like any other animal (or human) with teeth.... it can bite as hard or soft as it wants to. With alot of time and attention, ferrets are some of the coolest animals around! Just be sure they get alot of attention and stay tame to people!!!!!

in the history of ferret bites. there was only one "serious" ferret bite. and that was because that ferret didnt have his vaccinations. i have a ferret. he nibbles. never punctures the skin. hamster bites hurt more.

people may think that a ferret bite would be worse because they are bigger. its not true.

What a loser, of course it hurts if they bite hard. My Chica will bite hard if she is playing, she has drawn blood before, but you have to remember that ferret skin is thicker than human skin, so, to them it is just play biting. My Chewy, has never bitten me ever. It depends on the animal, Chica is very playful and full of it, Chewy is also playful, but he's a lover not a biter.

During play they nip like puppies. If they want your attention and you are ignoring them they will give a slightly harder nip. And an abused ferret will bite harder if it feels threatened. Deaf ferrets also often have nipping problems. In both cases (abuse and deafness) a little understanding and patient training can usually cure a problem biter.

it depends. my 2 have never really bit me my little female bits in play but like a kitten and so does my male, they even do this to my 3 yr old son and he thinks it is soo funny so obviously it doesn't hurt. the one i'm house sitting though is rougher he really bit me but didn't break skin, i was playing with him and he latched on i even lifted my hand and he was still on there. his owner said he made him that way(why he would want him to bite that hard i don't know). if you get a young one and they bite a little to hard it isn't that hard to train them not to do it. as for the older ones or the abused ones i am not sure how hard it is to re-train them.

Depends on the ferret size, the ferret, if it has rabies (unlikey if store/humane society adopted) and where it bites.
