According to a survey I came accross, for every $1 of positive campaining, there are $10 of negative. It is obvious that people are voting AGAINST a candidate rather than FOR one. Why is this happenning in our American culture? Please no blaming a certain political party or specific people, I am talking about our culture.

If you take the time to check most of the Negative comments in the adds, the Negative points are spun so hard you can make new suits from the thread. I for one think its a waste of money.. Good old fashion politicing came with butt kissing a dinner and a speach.. And ......lies half truths. But it didn't cost as much.. I'm going to watch TV land until Tuesday.. :)

I think people are doing the right thing but in the wrong way.. We need to judge the candidates on their past performance, but the fastest way to get that information for most people is to watch TV... Not everyone has a computer and the different web sites are usually skewed in one direction or the other.. It's hard to find out where to get accurate information....... P.s.. most people don't know enough about the candidates past performance so they believe what they want to believe, wherever they hear it.

Most people know so little about real social issues, and are so oblivious to politics and the power of elected officials, that it's easier to win a race calling your oponent the devil than it is drawing up a series of pie charts and producing cohesive arguments. To put it more plainly, if I was trying to convince a (purely theoretical) elementary class of the importance of not trusting strangers, I would not tell them that it is statistically more likely for them to be abducted by a member of or friend of the family -- I would tell them that strangers can be bad men that kill kittens.

It's sad, isn't it? I don't think this is a very new think actually......One of the problems is that as human nature it's always easier to find fault and criticize than doing the work of creating answers to problems. And any suggestion a candidate makes for making things better will cause disagreement in many people. Pointing out what your opponent failed to do is not controversial.

When election advertisments become negative, it means polls are close. In these cases, politicians pull out all of the stops and will do anything to get their ratings up.

Our culture like to hear bad things. When we watch the news there are rarely nice, happy stories, it is all death, bad weather, scams and fraud. That is what gets ratings. If you vote against someone, then you have to vote for someone else. Politicians are trying to get public attention.

It's competition. It can get ugly when one fights for what he wants badly.
