I agree that the accident was the worst. It prevented her from being able to carry her pregnancy to term and she really wanted to be a mother. It caused her pain for the rest of her life, sometimes debilitating pain.

Diego broke her heart, but she gradually learned to stand up to him in many ways. And they were influential and supportive of each other's work. Certainly Frida would have been happier if Diego had been able to be a faithful husband, but she put her pain to good use, and she didn't wallow in it much, either! She did her work and she travelled without him and kept her own opinions and had some lovers, too.

Frida is a wonderful film! Did you know that the director is the same woman who directed "The Lion King" on Broadway? She was the first woman to win the Tony award for Best Direction of a Musical. And Salma Hayek's performance is just stunning......

Have fun with your paper!

I recently watched this movie because of my Humanities class and I asked my instructor who was the more famous painter, Frida or Diego and his reply was Diego. Frida began painting because of her father and her accident but it wasn't until she met Diego where her career finally started to take flight. He brought her happiness and heartbreak in which both brought strength for her paintings. I would really have to go with Diego on this one.

To me....it was definitely her accident....it inspired the darkest side of her, yet the art that was reflected in that period shows the pristine beauty of her soul. In every ones life there comes a time to stare the ego in its dark and shadowed face and begin to make the journey. The journey through our own worst fears and hopes deflated...into the excruciating pain of loss and let down, and through our deepest, hidden selves.... to emerge on the other side true and painless....unrecognizable. Her accident was an inevitable evolution her soul was more than strengthened for, many would fail where she so brightly achieved

For some it is a painstaking choice we make...to sacrifice clout, our reputations, our friends, our family...to go beyond what is programed and discover one's true nature...for Freida...it was forced through not only the accident but also through whom she loved and how she loved....with every ounce of her soul...with her darkness and her light.

hope that helps...God, I love that woman SHE IS AN ENIGMA

I think the worst thing that happened to her was her low self-esteem. It's at the same thing the best thing that happened to her, because it gave her inspiration for her self-portrait and many other things.
