Basically, I want to design games. But on my search for details and specifics on Game Design, I was often re-routed to other sites and categories. Can anyone give me the details of Game Design, and possibly other areas I should be interested/looking for that will inevitably help me become a game designer?

This is funny timing. I found the perfect school for you. Electronic Gaming Monthly says it's one of the top "five game degree programs in the world".

It's called Full Sail. They offer degrees in computer animation, digital arts and design, entertainment business, film, music recording, AND game development. Their grads have gone on to make Madden NFL 2007 and Nascar 06.

I found out about them through a grass roots word of mouth campaign called Bzz Agent.

Check out the websites for companies like EA, Namco, see what their requirements are for jobs you are interested in. Besides designers, they are looking for graphic artists, production leads, tools design, animation, 3D rendering. You'll find that a lot of jobs focus on creative process, designing characters, scenery, mapping, creating plots, defining themes. For example Madden NFL 2006 the theme is centered on running back play, previous themes were quarterbacks, linebackers. So game designers aren't all necessarily going to be writing code, it could visual aspects of the game.
