Wood once damaged is damaged. Kitchen's are busy areas that are usually covered with linoleum, tiles, stone, travertines etc. The best advice I think would be to go for a distressed wood look if you still want wood in the kitchen.

Buffalochuck has it right, you might be able to get the fibers to swell back into position by steaming the floor. Also, any dents that occur on a wood floor are far more noticable on stained wood than on wood that just has a clear finish, so if your Maple floor is not a light yellowish cream color you could sand it down until it is a light cream color then Finish the floor with a clear finish, my favorite type for floors is a high build oil based Polyurethane resin varnish. If you decide to go this route, you will want to use High gloss for all of the layers except, if you want semi gloss or flat the last coat only should be in the desired sheen. The other option is to accept the floor as it is and learn to enjoy the look of a lived on floor that proves that your kitchen is more than a show room for Industrial art (appliances).

If it is just a few deep dents you could try filling them. If you have some scraps of maple that are very close in color, you can get sawdust from them and mix them with epoxy to make a putty. The color should match, but there will be no grain. Also, the epoxy patch might become noticeable if you refinish the floor. If you do do this, I would try to avoid joints because if the wood move, the epoxy is going to mess it up.

Short of sanding and refinishing the whole floor, you might try steaming the dents out. Wet a towel and set it over the dent. Next take a hot clothes iron and apply it to the towel. The hot steam should help to swell the dent out.
