I have been trying to find out about ovulation after child birth. I had a baby 6 weeks ago and haven't gotten my period yet so I looked up how soon it would come (bottle fed baby) I read that you do not ovulate until AFTER first period after childbirth is this true?

you can some times ovulate before you get your first period, this is more common with those who breast feed (which is best for babies and moms). some women who breast feed do not get a period for a year or two but will ovulate before getting it back and end up preganant again and not sure when they concieved since they had no period. this could happen to a non breast feeding woman as well.
