AA is a dangerous cult. It is full of thought stopping lies and slogans.
there is a study done by the the fat cats at AAWS that shows that people who have been exposed to AA are four times more likely to commit suicide than people who have not. They (AAWS) have supressed the results of the study because it shows clearly that AA does not work.
Any 'medicine' with that as a side effect would be pulled from the marketplace.
I have wasted too many years in that worthless organization.
I looked high and low for a sponsor and could not find any winners to stick with so I left.
I have been much happier since leaving and I am getting my sanity back.
AA took more sanity from me than it gave.
the saying "If it ain't recovery it's the best show in town for a buck"
is the only real truth I heard in the rewms.

I am an AA member with almost 9 years sober. I have not had the experience you describe and am very sorry you did. As someone once told me, though, assholes get sober too. Perhaps your sponsor is one of these. My own sponsor would never behave this way, nor would I with the women I sponsor. I hope you will not give up because of this experience. As others have said, perhaps you would identify better if you went to NA instead of AA. And you definitely need a different sponsor, whatever you do. It is critical that you trust your sponsor, but if you don't, the answer is to change sponsors, not to throw your sobriety out the window.

Nope, can't think of a single one.

There is no mention of sponsors in the first 164 pages of the Big Book.

There was a study that showed having a sponsor does not increase your chances of staying sober, but BEING a sponsor does.

I've had 5 sponsors, the first four relapsed and the last one had some sort of breakdown, alcohol may or may not have been part of it.

Many who want to be sponsors are wannabe gurus on petty power trips.

I'll give ya one or two....A sponsor is someone to help you work the steps. They already have..A sponsor is someone that gets to know ya and can help ya out when he sees your danger signs showing..Also a sponsor is someone you meet that you want what you see in them. What we figure real quick is that we can't do anything "alone" anymore..We've tried that and look---here we are..We have come to learn that a life run on self will can hardly be a success...We Need each other...

Because a member of AA needs......

1.) Some one to call when they need some one to talk to.

2.) Some one to help them in the program itself.

3.) Some one to just be a friend.

4.) Some one to be there for them when life turns tough (wanting a drink due to something bad happening to them or a bad day).

5.) Some one to help them understand all of the steps and help them complete them and start them over again.

6.) Some one who might help them get to meetings.

7.) Some one to just be there for them anytime for just about anything (my alanon sponser was always there for me)

8.) Some one to encourage them and tell them that everything works if they work with it.

9.) Some one to help them overcome the addiction.

10.) Some one to who understands your situation.

I can't think of ten....

It helps an alcoholic to know someone else has gone through the same thing.

An alcoholic needs to know he or she has someone to call any time of day or night when the urge for a drink hits.

It helps to feel like you're letting someone down if you screw up.

I'm sure there are more, but there's a start for you...
