I recently had a pap smear. I have had one before and found it to be painful and uncomfortable. However, this time the pain was excruciating. After the exam, I was sore down there and overall, it just didn't feel the same. Later, i found small traces of blood when I used the bathroom. An entire day later, I can still feel the affects of having had it done. It doesn't hurt but feels weird. Is it normal to feel this way after a pap smear? If it means anything, i'm a virgin. I heard it's more uncomfortable for virgins but this pap smear was ridiculously more painful than my very first one. Why do you think it hurt so bad?

Yes that has happened to me. The woman who did my pap did an awful job. I didn't go back to her. If it still hurts tomorrow, go see a doctor.

i am sexually active and whenever i have a pap done its not exactly painful but it is uncomfortable for a day down there.i too have found traces of blood after a pap.that part is normal alongs ifs its light and not like bright red.usually after a pap smear the gyno offers you a panty liner in case of break through bleeding.what helps me after a pap is i take tylenol or midol.and i take a warm bubble bath.and put a heating pad on your belly.but if it hurts for more than a day or two call your gyno and tell them about it.

Being a virgin probably has something to do with the procedure being uncomfortable. In addition, when you get pap smear cells are rubbed from your cervix...so, there may be some blood afterward. I have experienced the same thing.

Not normal for a pap. I suggest you contact the doctor and ask why this happened. Virgin or not, it should not be that painful or make you bleed.

It doesn't sound normal to me. Maybe a bit of blood (but I don't think there should be), but you should talk to your physician about the abnormal pain. I don't believe it should have hurt as badly as you say. Uncomfortable, yes. Excruciatingly so, No.

Even if you are a virgin, it should NOT hurt. Especially for this long. Go back to see your doctor. Perhaps you were accidentially "scraped or jabbed" during the exam.

It was perfomed incorrectly. Go to another doctor and have them examine you to make sure no permanent damage was done.
