You can use old postage at any time. The only requirement is that it total the current amount needed to send postage. In the US that is currently $0.39 for a once ounce letter.
If your postage is over that amount when you combine the stamps, it will still go through - you have just lost some change as far as your money goes. Oh well! When it's what you've got and it is important to send out, you do what ya gotta do!

FYI, you can also print stamps from the internet and find out more about US mail service from www.usps.com.

If you are in the United States, any postage stamp issued since the Civil War is still valid for postage, and I often use stamps that are 50 years old or more on my mail. Nobody cares if you overpay.

In many other countries, older stamps are not valid. In European countries that use the Euro, you can't use the stamps denominated in francs, lira, or marks, for example.

You can use the old ones as long as the amount adds up to at least the correct postage. If it is more postage than needed, that is fine. The post office will consider it a bonus.

Yes you can. They don't care if the postage is over, only if it is less than it should be. People use old stamps all the time.

You can use the old ones if you want. Just as long as it equals the correct postage.
