This my first baby and I'm 28 weeks along. I just got laid off at work last thursday (not because I'm pregnant, because my employer couldn't afford to pay me to keep working for him). Now I'm unemployed because I am contract labor/self-employed I can't file for unemployment. I don't know what my chances are of finding employment with me being in my third tri-mester (due January 22, 2007). I don't know what to do right now but I know I can't afford to be off for very long. I know once the baby is born I shouldn't have that much of a problem find employment.

I was in the same predictment ask your doctor to write you a note for state disbility it wont be much but its something while your unemployed but it is 6 weeks that you should be off work and you wont be able to find a job unfortunatly while pregnant only other advice I can give you is to apply for the county because you are pregnant you qualify for the emergancy aid and you will be able to have food and money while your pregnant because January is a long time and with the cash aid you can buy all the things your baby is going to need and after you can find a job and get off but dont be ashamed to get it because your baby will need it

the girls at my work all come back to work within 2 weeks...my boss says that people back in the old days would have kids in the cornfield and keep on working...i swear in the old days he was proably the slave driver...hes a jerk...anyawys i think you should take off at least 6 weeks to get the hang of it...and start feeling better...because having a baby hurts really bad!! lol and getting used to getting up all the time is even harder to grasp....maybe you could be a secetery somewhere...or work at a library sure it doesnt pay much but itd work...anyways ogodluck to you sweetie...and congratulatons on the baby!

I was off a full 2 months- because I had a c-section, it took a good 2 months to recover. So I say anywhere from 6-8 weeks off from work.

I know someone that came back after 2 weeks. I think it would depend on what type of work you do and what your doctor says. If you have a c-section I seriously doubt that the doctor will want you to go back to work. Besides, you may not feel like it.

As a mom of our, who now doesn't work outside this circus tent!, I would recommend 6 weeks, 8 if you can. Best of luck.

I would say 3 weeks at a minimum, most would probably recommend 6 weeks.

I think it depends on you and you're health and frame of mind.

My mom went back to work 5 days after giving birth to my little brother - but she had teenage children and family to help out looking after baby so i guess it depends on that too!
