I'm 20, female, and in college. Any suggestions about wraps and coats would be helpful too.

I always like Pashmina shawls (80% cashmere, 20% silk); they look very elegant, keep you warm and come in a variety of colors. Best of all, you can even wear them with casual college clothes, such as jeans. Try this Web site: http://www.thepashminastore.com/Wraps-and-Stoles-Silk-Blend-s/6.htm

It pays to get the cashmere/silk blends, because they look and feel better and last much longer than the rayon/viscose blends available at stores like Target. Depending on the exact shade of your dress, you could try an ivory, the same (might be difficult to find) or a slightly darker shade of pink, or even a silvery grey. Since pink is usually a cool colour, I would accesorize with silver or white gold jewelry. However, pearls are always a good and safe choice, too.

Depending on where you live, a shawl may not be enough to keep you warm outside. I rather like the idea of faux fur jacket (as somebody suggested earlier) or even a velvet or brocade opera coat. These are rather expensive -- unless you get lucky and find one on sale (try TJ MAXX, Nordstrom Rack, Filene's, EBay, etc.) -- and you may not want to spend so much money. I think it's perfectly acceptable to wear a wool coat over your evening dress and take it to the coat check place when you enter the venue. I have a velvet cloak, but I probably won't take it with me when we travel to Europe for New Year's Eve, and I will just wear a regular coat over my gown.

You could also get opera-length (above the elbows) gloves to give your arms a little more coverage. (Please, take them off when you sit down to eat, though.) Gloves look great and add an extra layer to protect you from colder temperatures.

I hope this helps. I love getting dressed up and going to formal events, too. :-)

first put on some nice long earings then you can wear some
pretty/nice bracelets next wear a silver neclace with a rihne stone pendant wear some really nice heals and to top it off wear a wrap not a coat because wraps look nicer than a jacket with a strapless dress.

you could get a white wrap. or a scarf or such. you can accessories with corsages, bracelets, necklace....chokers, nothing that touches the top of the neckline, that would be too much going on up there.
