An acquaintance of ours was killed instantly a few years ago. She was leaving a large Grocery store in our city, & was struck by a car while she was still inside the vestibule of the entrance to the store. The car was driven by a senile little old lady who simply got the gas & brake pedals confused momentarily.
I now own a house that is built on a large corner lot.
Houses built at intersections of streets are particularly vulnerable to being struck by wayward vehicles driven by less than carefull drivers.
Our lot is carefully landscaped with large trees, boulders, thick hedges, etc. They were strategically placed to stop any vehicle before it could reach the house from the street, if one should stray off the beaten path.
The landscaping was done by the previous owner many years before we took posession of the house. I can't help but wonder what inspired them to do such a thing. Was it a pre-emptive move, or the result of a bad experience.

There use to be a house at the end of a pretty public road and it was run into so much the people moved and the house was torn down. Most of the time, the people were under the influence.
