#6 post I'm answering on Lost now 7:40am LOL. I'm obsessed. My theory on Lost is that the "survivors" are in purgatory. So I'm guessing the black smoke is kind of in a way a "reaper" Echo was never sorrry for his sins and found them all justafied so I guess that was his last chance and he went to hell or something. Notice when Locke was speaking to Echo about what Echo saw Jon said that he saw a beautiful white light and Echo say the complete opposite. Very sad and I have to add if the writers are trying to replace him with that really annoying girl and guy who can't act (they went to the hatch with Locke and them last night) they are going to have to kill them off and try again because Echo brought so much to the show. He will be missed :(

My impression of the black smoke is it is the devil (or some other evil entity).... He faced it down once before but this time, when it was his time to go - it took him. Locke would have no fear of the black smoke because he is a good and honest man.... it wouldn't want him.
I have to say though, it did freak me out.
Hey remember the pilot!!! The black smoke took him too!!! Wonder what he did?? Did he crash the plane intentionally??? Was he in on the Dharma project or working with the others, or both???? very interesting..... If the black smoke is the devil and is there to deliver the sinners to hell.... what did the pilot do???

It was his time. He made peace within himself and his brother and he rebuilt his brother's church. It is time. But what worries me most is Locke said he saw a bright light and Mr Ekko saw the black smoke. Uh oh.....you know what that means. It's not fair. He did kill the old man in order to save his brother's life from the warlords.
Rest in Peace, Brother. See You on the Other Side

Hmmm, interesting theory. All i know was, i was glad to see it back after it's brief appearance in season 1. I thought that storyline was dead in the water cause it never showed up in season 2.

It probably has something to do with that.
His brother's body disappeared just as Jack's father's disappeared.
That was freaky; I thought he stared it down before.. it came back with a vengeance.

I don't know what the hell that is. What confuses me the most is, do the others know about it or did they create it?
