Depending on the location of the scales, you may be able to take alternative routes to avoid them. Usually this will delay you, because you will be off of the main highways, and on side streets. Some scales are a lot harder to avoid than others. Some are located at bridges, and in areas where there is not a real good way to avoid them!
If you are within weight, and have all you logs and paperwork in order, you will have little trouble at the scales. Make sure all your lights work, and your brakes are adjusted up (usually a 9/16 wrench will be all you need to adjust them daily.)
Other drivers will tip you off about problem scales, where the inspectors are on a power trip, any cause a lot of drivers problems!

if you handle a few things right, you wont have to worry about the scales...even if they pulled you around back! Have your credentials up, log book current, weights right, truck in good maintenance and bol's in order - you'll be okay. Dont "trick" out your ride with extra lights or stickers to draw attention - there are new laws just passed about this. Subscribe to LandLine Magazine and become a member of OOIDA!. Dodging em and getting caught at is costs way to much $$..good luck!

The only possible way is to only drive when the scales are closed, which is, of course impractical for any distance driving. If you are hauling loads that are illegal or otherwise subject to regulations you aren't interested in meeting, you will be subject to spot checks by highway patrol, and they can have you on the scales whenever they suspect something is not quite right with your load, not to mention roadside safety checks, log book checks, the works. Be smart, and drive within the law of the land.

most of the above answer are right on, you can decrees your chance of getting pulled in to the chicken coup. keep a clean truck, do not be smoking, take off the sun glasses as you go over the scale open the window and turn off the radio.
And if you do get pulled in it is yes sir no sir and just follow directions, i have seen to main guys talk them self in to a ticket verse talk them self out of one so just keep your mouth shut and play it cool.
