I'm 21 and still stuck with this stupid 1989 Buick Century my dad brought home when I was 15. Be honest, how bad is it?

Awww, thanks guys! And no, I can't afford a car yet because I'm going to a really expensive college.

Um, except for that Stevo guy: I'll have you know that I maintain a 3.87 GPA at a fine university, have TWO jobs, and have found it necessary to spend my money on tuition, books, rent, food, and a new laptop after my last one broke.

Does the car start, run, and get you where you want to go?

Why do you care what other people think? A vehicle is a form of transportation. if it gets you from point A to point B, there is nothing wrong with driving it. Actually it says that you are smart enough not to waste your money in trying to impress others!

The least your dad could have done was bought you a Jaguar XK or a Mercedes SLK 350, right? Sorry, but you get no sympathy. At 18, I bought my own first car, for $175, at 21 I bought my second car. I bought used, I bought what i could afford, and didn't worry what others may have thought about it. You do have the option of not driving, and you will save money and get healthy at the same time.

I hate to do this but, I'll answer your question with a question...
Can you afford to buy your own car?

If the answer is no, then make do with what you have, until you can. Trust me, it's not about what you drive, and I have driven worse... an 87 ford econoline 150 with no interior except a drivers seat. If it's a good running vehicle and the seat belts work it should be just fine until you can get yourself a better ride.

It's not that bad. The Century is a good car, I have never owned a Buick that owed me money. Just be happy with what you have for now. Someday you will be able to buy what you want.

Don't feel bad. When I was still in Highschool, I drove this 1989 Pontiac Astre station wagon it was orange with wood paneling down the sides. I used to get teased all the time so I would tell them hey, look whose walking! That shut them up. So don't worry your car is great.

Borrow somebody's bicycle, and ride it for one week, then ask yourself the question. If the car runs and gets you back and forth, keep motoring. I hope you thanked your dad, for giving you a car that runs. I'm sure if he was able to buy you a new car, he would have done that. Maybe someday when you graduate, and get a good job, you can return a favor to them, and buy them a decent vehicle. (I'm thinking they don't drive BMW's, or Volvo's) Stick to school, and you might be driving one of them!

if your car is in good condition then be thankful that you are blessed to have a car at all. You could be stuck on a bus or walking. Even if it is ugly you could be worse off. A coworker of mine is 30 something and her and her husband both working are stuck sharing one car and bumming rides from friends. That would be worse.

The year of the car shouldn't be a measuring stick as to its quality. As long as the car is in good shape and performs well, you shouldn't have a problem. You have no need to be embarrassed.

What you could do is go get a JOB, save you money, buy a car and give it away . Now how would you feel if you gave away a jag, or a
mercedes. Thats why you got the Buick.
