I've had it pierced for over a year & it's still oozy & crusty. I still put the disinfectant on it a few times a day. Sometimes I switch to rubbing alcohol or bactine. What can clear this up. I want to wear a pretty wire loop in it, but when I've tried it just makes the condition worse.

The problem could be that you have sensitive ears. You have them infected. It will continue by you using the same earrings you've been putting in. Do not wear anything for now. The alcohol will help. Give it time. Wait til the infection has cleared, then, try wearing earrings that are:
- made for sensitive ears
or
- nickel-free
or
-sterling silver
or
-real gold.

Ok if you can stop at your piercer or any piercer and get their opinion. They will be able to help you better than we can since they can see it and are the experienced ones here. You could be allergic to the piercing and they can change it for you. Or you could have an infection and may need to stop at the doctor and get some antibiotic but dont listen to him if he says to take it out because if you do it will trap the infection and it will have no where to go. You may not ever be able to wear a wire loop.
Stop using alcohol and bactine. They dry out your piercing and makes it harder to heal. What kind of disinfectant do you use. I bought the provon they sold at the parlor and that is much better than any regular antibacterial soap.
The best thing you can do for your piercing now is learn to love sea salt soaks. Stop at a store and by some sea salt. Take one teaspoon sea salt to one cup warm water and tilt your head to the side and put the cup to your ear for 10 min. The theory here is that bacteria love warm salty places and if they have a warmer saltier place to go to they will. Then make sure you rinse your ear out real good after. Do this 2-4 times a day. It also helps to promote blood flow and healing. Since I have started the soaks I have had hardly any oozing. Feel free to email me if you have any more questions.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM FOR ABOUT A YEAR CARTILAGE ALWAYS WANTS TO GROW BACK. THAT PART OF THE EAR IS VERY SENSITIVE AND PRONE TO INFECTION. HOW DID YOU GET YOUR EAR PIERCING DONE BY A NEEDLE OR A GUN? THAT CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE HEALING PROCESS. THE GUN AT THE LITTLE MALL STORES DON'T TAKE OUT ENOUGH CARTILAGE AND THIS IS WHY THE CRUST AND OOZING KEEPS REOCCURRING. BACTINE ISN'T STRONG ENOUGH IF AN INFECTION IS PRESENT YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY BETADYNE IT'S EXPENSIVE BUT YOU CAN BUY SWABS AT WAL-MART. ALSO YOU NEED TO SWITCH YOUR EARRING TO A SURGICAL STEEL ONE JUST FOR ABOUT A MONTH OR TWO USUALLY GOLD OR STERLING SILVERS ARE PORUS AND BACTERIA COLLECTS IN THE PORES OF THE METALTHUS CAUSING CONTANT IRRATATION YOU ARE EXPERIENCING. YOUR BEST SOLUTION IS TO ONLY WEAR THE CUTE EARRINGS FOR SHORT PEROIDS IN THE DAY AND TAKE OFF AND WEAR THE SURG. STEEL AT NIGHT SEE IF THIS ALONG W/BETADYNE SWABS ALTERNATE WITH BACTINE DOESN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITHIN 1 WEEK IF NOT SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION YOU MUST HAVE A MORE SERIOUS CONDITION THAT NEEDS URGENT TREATMENT BY A PROFESSIONAL. GOOD LUCK AND REMEMBER THIS IS ONLY FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCE AND FROM ADVICE I RECEIVED FROM A PIERCING TECH. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!!!

Sometimes they are the hardest to clear up. you may need to use peroxide, not what they sell you to use that stuff is useless. Really get in there with a Q tip and do it morning and night. At night put some triple antibiotic oint. whatever you have used in the past. Then always wash your hands well and clean the earrings in peroxide and put them in dried. Keep everything that touches your ear clean. Don't touch them during the day unless you have washed your hands really really well. Try this for a week or a little longer if it seems to improve and if so continue. If this does not work go to alcohol at night and warm salt water at night. Compresses with a hot washcloth in salt water wouldn't hurt to do anytime during all of this, it will soften up the infection and help it drain out and hopefully the peroxide and maybe alcohol will allow it to dry up. Keep it clean, clean, clean.

It sounds like it may be infected. Are you washing your hands before you clean it? Are you touching it or allowing anyone else to touch it with dirty hands?

See the link below for proper after care information. If after you try these methods and it doesn't clear up see your doctor.

You may be allergic to nickel. Try using nickel-free jewelry. Also, get a different earring stud. It may have a tiny nick in the post that is causing the irritation.

it could also be that you've developed an allergy to the earing you are trying to put in. get your DR to look at it. Cartilage takes a long time to heal to begin with, it has less blood flow than flesh or muscles.

I had the same problem. Cartlidge never heals correctly. Sounds like you need to take it out. Sorry :) That was the only way mine got better. Maybe try your other er?

Have it evaluated by a doctor. It sounds like the piercing wasn't properly placed. Just please tell me that you didn't have it done at Claire's.

You may have to have it repierced after this one heals.
