I was reading the article on the speculums. My last pap test was about 3 months ago. When my doctor inserted the first speculum, it broke inside me. Then with the second it did the same. I was as relaxed as possible and he was using the small spec. It was pretty painful. Finally, the third one was ok. What can I do next time to make my visit a little less painful?

i agree maybe you should take some ibuprohren before your next appointment most gyno's use ky jelly to ease it in dont be afraid to tell him or her you may need a little more jelly.the doctors try to make the exam as comfortable as they can for you so dont be afraid to speak up

You should change to another doctor.
Nobody breaks speculums inside a patient!

That's crazy. I would demand that he switch to a better brand, or change doctors.

You could take ibuprofen about an hour or so before your appointment.
