I had a 5 inch (male) blood parrot and decided to get him a girlfriend who is about half jis size. 55 gallon tank -only these two inhabitants.
First couple of days they looked happy. They dug together and everything was cool.
BUT NOW, he charges her. She hides, he bullies her, doesnt let her eat. She runs and then looks exhausted.
Now she has developed black coloring on tips of fins on top. She also has a dark spot where her genitals are. He looks more proud. But he pushes her and Im concerned.
Fighting or mating?

When mine were mating, they'd shake/shiver, chase each other around, lip lock, and one would do loop d loops in the tank lol. Do they each have their own cave or area to hide in? If not, add another hidey hole, can use one of those cheap terra cotta flower pots. Try rearranging the set up in the tank to and see if that helps. If not, probably have to get a divider and try again when she's a bit bigger. You can make your own divider, not sure how much one is for a 55 gal, we had to make one for a 75 gal-couldn't find one. Just pick up a piece of plexiglass, cut it to fit, drill a couple of holes around it for the water to filter through. Here's a good forum for parrot fish.

If the parrot were fighting, he would be beating the cr** out of the firemouth, who would be all beat-up looking. I think the firemouth may have some small parasites and the parrot is trying to pick them off. Especially since the fm is scraping along the bottom sideways, which is how they try to get parasites off themselves. Not mating ritual and not fighting. We had a 125 with cichlids, and we put about 4-6" of pea gravel in the bottom and lots of plastic plants attached to the bottom. Cichlids really like to dig up the bottom and make themselves little caves to go in and sit and peek out. They can make their own cave and hide away when they want to be left alone. Your gravel is nice, but kind of heavy and large to be digging up.

They are fighting. I have a mating pair and they are in my tank with 2 other blood parrots. The mating pair are always together, guarding their nest, and the fight off the 2 others if they get too close.

it does sound like they are fighting , and yes he can kill her. you might just try a tank separator for the next week or so , if he was by himself for a while then yes he will be dominate and be highly Territorial even though it is a chick for him , i have 7 in a tank and when i try to introduce something new into the aquarium they have killed it off.
