Can you remember something that he's mentioned (toy, movie?) that he loved as a child and doesn't have anymore? If so, go one e-bay. Pick something that's relatively inexpensive, since it is still only 3 months. But this will show that you do care, and you do listen and know him. : )

MONEY...works every time.
1. ask him directly what he wants...(simple and will not buy the wrong stuff)
2. is he a collector of any thing?
3. fan of any clubs ?
4. if he likes you any thing that you give him he will always appreciate it.

A nice framed photo of lovely you (or both of you together :)
Take him out to dinner or go out for a love movie! Just make sure it's a movie you won't cry in or it's to boring that ya'll will start making out or somthing. You know what i mean?LOL
What you should get him some clothes, a watch,or a pair of shoes
a wallet..
just keep the money in tat wallet, remind him not to waste the money...
& he'll thinking of u everyday...
How about movie theater gift certificate and a gift card to his fave restaurant so you can have a night out. Or Blockbuster gift certificate and Pizza Hut certificate and his fave candy bars so you can have a night in. Ether way it's a gift of spending time with you.
If u go with something that he likes, u can't go wrong. Maybe He's an avid fan of a sport, get him something that will remind him of his favorite team and his favorite girl.
Maybe a watch. When he's in a class or somewhere he'd rather not, and looks at the time he'll be remembering u.

If u don't want to ask him what he wants directly, u could strike up a conversation that will lead to him telling u about something that he likes, or needs.
Personally I would go with a lil teddy with a heart saying "I love u".
