Trying to figure out if you have to be 35 years old before you decide to declare the nomination?

ARTICLE II, Section 1:
"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."
You have to be 35 by the time you are sworn in at noon on the 20th day of January (AMENDMENT XX, Section 1)

The constitution requires that a person be 35 years old to be president. But I wonder, does that mean he can turn 35 the day before he is sworn in, or does he have to be 35 when the election takes place? Article II, Section 1 is not clear on this.

You could decide to run now if you will be 35 in 2007 or 2008, but you have to be 35 to BE President.

I agree with Debra M. You have to be 35 to be president. There's nothing that says you have to be 35 during the campaign. As long as you turn 35 before the term starts.

Well, you could be 34 when you run for prez, as long as you are 35 when the term would start.

Yes you have to. Its in the eligibility rules of the US President. Things like citizenship, length of citizenship etc.

in fact you need to be around 40 to run for president.
