Can anyone tell me the difference between indirect and direct characterization????(examples would also help!)

I think what that means is the way the author describes a character. Using direct characterization means that the author is telling you, the reader, about the character. For example, the author could write something like "She has a PhD in English Literature." And then there are indirect ways, which are things that are implied about the character and are not written on the page. So, since we know that the character has a PhD, we assume that she is smart.
