My 16 year old son has a very heavy foot, I'd like to find a way of putting a speed limiter chip or governer in the car.

Not easy - as you cannot just limit throttle position or he will have too little power going up hill etc.

One other important word of warning - please remember that a driver will sometimes find the accelerator pedal can get them out of difficulty just as much as the brake pedal - especially if your son is trying to overtake someone - you do not want him riding side-by-side for too long because the car is in "limp mode"

If you are determined to do SOMETHING to slow him down, you might be able to pop a tiny magnet on the driveshaft and use this with a pulse counter (faster pulses = higher speed). if the freuqncy (speed) is greater than a preset limit then it sounds an air horn / flashes lights etc etc - which will make him slow down OR get pulled by the police. However it will NOT stop him increasing speed in an emergency.

Please do not "cripple" the car though - you would never get over the guilt trip if he had a prang that could have been avoided if he had a car that wasn't artificially underpowered at the wrong time.....

If he's not mechanically inclined, just put a couple of nuts on the end of the bolt that the throttle runs through. You basically block it from being able to move its full length. That of course lowers maximum accelleration too.

A governor won't stop him from doing 70mph in a 45mph zone. And I don't think it prevents jackrabbit starts nor tire skidding stops.

for the price of adding electronics, just buy an el cheapo that has almost no power. My dad's 3 cylinder Chevy Sprint didn't need a limiter.

There's also a device that is a GPS receiver. It transmits its location to the manufacturer. You can get weekly reports or view the car's movement on their web site (for a higher monthly premium). If he speeds, you can ground him or make him pay money. Money's always a good incentive.

One thing you can try is look under the hood and find where the gas pedal connect to the Throttle {Plenum} it a wire type cable. You may be able to put some type of stop on it that only let the wire go so far in opening, if, you get what I saying. Like putting a Lead weight on a fishing line. But, if he know or his friends figure it out they just take it off.

you want to adjust this cars speed limiter? go find yourself a dyno tuner and he can tune a chiped p06 to run the motor and adjust the speed limiter. might cost a bit but If you relly want that this is the way to do it. also since the car is obd2, you can put a thing ( forgot the name) into the slot where you would put a code scanner and it will record the speed accereation wheater or not the abs kicked in etc...

Your best bet would be to take the car to a dealership and ask them if they can adjust the cars top speed.
Or you could go the real expensive route, and purchase a power programmer for it.
A regualr mechanic most likely will not have the software to change something like this.

in basic terms shop it effortless and shop the F22B2 perhaps positioned a sparkling motor in case you do a motor replace you apart from mght would desire to alter the transmission if your doing a distinctive series (first letter), series must be the comparable. you have F series already. plus its computerized so in case you do a metamorphosis you're able to make it instruction manual besides. no think approximately making a B16 computerized or B18/H22 K20 and so on with computerized. it defys the objective in my view.
