It may be as simple as your CD Drive is old and on its way to not functioning at all. If it comes and goes like that, I would venture a guess that is what is happening. You might also check the connection cable or the power harness. If you have never been inside of a computer, I would advise against just rummaging around inside there. Try to find someone who is hardware savvy and ask them if they can help you with your issue. You might also try to download updated drivers for it. If you are using Win XP, right click on the "my computer" icon on the desktop and then go down to "properties". In the box that appears, click the hardware tab (close to the top). Look for a button that says device manager. When the window opens, look for the listing for DVD/CD ROM Drives. There should be a + inside of a little box beside it. Click the plus box and your CD Drive should be listed underneath. Right click the name of the drive and then go to properties. Another dialogue box will open and then you need to click the "driver" tab at the top. Down close to the bottom, there will be a button that says "update driver". Click that and windows will ask you if you want it to search the net for a driver. Click one of the "yes" radio buttons and windows will take it from there.
If windows can not find a driver, make a note of the name of the CD ROM in the device manager and do a manual google search for that specifiic device driver. You might want to type your search in as: download driver and then your CD ROM name from the device manager.
Hope this helps!

It could happen for various reasons. Make sure that the Power cable is working fine for the drive. You can do this by trying to eject the drive when it is not detected. If it opens up that means your power cable is working fine. If it's not ejecting, try checking the power connections 2 the drive. the connector may be loose. Also check the IDE cable. If the cable is old replace it.. It wont cost u much.

attempt restoring to the ultimate widely used strong time you may want to burn a CD. initiate / classes / all classes / upload-ons/ equipment equipment/ equipment restoration. If this does no longer artwork your CD laser would properly be fried. I had a DVD / CD burner and the DVD burner worked yet might want to no longer examine or burn Cd's anymore. offered a faster DVD / CD burner on-line for $30.00 and develop into waiting to position in it lower than quarter-hour. strong success VIC
