Its called emancipation.

I would think the rules are different in every state, and it probably only works on a case by case basis.

You need to be emanicpated, visit your local court house to get the paperwork started

You can ask the court to let you be on your own you would have to give good reasons for them to do it and be able to prove you can take care of yourself.
