First scan your PC for spyware Spybot Search and Destroy http://safer-networking.org is a great program to help with that.
Next defragment the hard drive. This is a big source of slow downs to the PC.
Also check to see what programs are starting when Windows starts. Too many useless programs load when Windows starts. This slows the system down as well. With a little help from a technical person filter out programs that you don't need running the second windows starts. StartEd http://outertech.com
Last if your PC still feels sluggish have you thought about your system RAM? If you PC has the minimum amount to work then your PC will work at minimum performance. RAM prices are always falling and getting an extra stick of RAM is an easy way to improve performance. If you cannot afford it or do not wish to spend money use Cacheman http://outertech.com for a little help.

It all depends upon how old your computer is; If it is upgradable; how much data you have stored on your hard drive; How often you do a thorough cleanup of your system; how much you would be willing to spend to upgrade it , if need be and a few other things that would fall in the category of upgrading. Also, how often you scan your system for viruces, spyware, etc.
So, before you pout your hands in your pocket, do a virus/spyware scan then do a thorough cleanup of your system. That is, clean your cache, delete any and all Internet temporary files, cookies and history; then do a check disk and a defrag.
Following these actions, restart your computer and see if its operation/speed has improved. If not, go to add/remove and see what programs you can delete from your hard drive.
After that go back and do the same maintenance steps as mentioned above and try again to see if the speed has improved. If the results are not satisfactory to you, then prepare to spend some money to upgrade you system.
Again, before spending too much, see if you can increase your memory (RAM). to about 512 minimum. That could cost you from $70 to $200. This will depend upon how much memory you will need to add. If this doesn't sound like something you want to do, then start thinking about spending some more money for upgrading or for a new machine.
Depending upon what you want to do with your PC, you could get a new one for as Little as $400.00.
It's your decision.
Good luck,
NDS

Find what all you are running on startup is a good place to start. You can type msconfig in your run box and click the startup tab. Make sure you know what you are shutting down tho! Add more ram! Run your adware removal tools.

first, if it is windows operated, defragment the hard drive. if you can get more ram, do it. also, a faster processor would obviously do it. make sure you don't have too many programs running simultaneously. other than those things, i would need more info on your machine.
