I want to start ballet again and I'm 14... isn't that the age when ballet dancers are starting to "peak"? Do you also have to be a specific weight? Thanks for your tips or suggestions. Be honest.

If you've taken ballet before, that experience will probably make it easier. 14 is definitely not too old to take ballet, just make sure you continue to focus on your school work and other things that are important to you. Sometimes people will say that you have to be a certain age or weight to be a dancer, but don't put limits on yourself. I've never met a dance teacher who would refuse to teach someone who was willing to work and learn, so I'm sure you can find a class. It's natural to have some doubts and fears before you start something new. Just focus on what it is that you want to do and how much dancing means to you.

I took ballet from age 3 to 10, then I quit. I'm 14 as well now and I rejoined this year. Go for it! Yea, some dancers "peak" at this age, but not all of them. And you'll probably take a class that is right for you and not too hard. I want to try to get en pointe next year and I'm working my a** off to do it. You'll catch up quick if you've had lessons before like me. and if its something you really love, you'll have more dedication and that makes it easier too because you put more time and effort into it. At most studios you can be any weight, sometimes professional academies and art colleges require a specific weight I think, but chances are you won't be going anywhere that professional especially if you aren't en pointe yet. Look in your phone book for studios or join your old one. I hope you have as much fun as I am!

14 is a good age to start, i know others who have started l8ter and have done great! personally i started when i was 12, almost 13. there is NO specific weight, just as fit as you can b is the best. i'm not the most skinny person in my ballet class, cause i don't look like a stick! but, i'm not fat either. just a healthy weight for age yr age/height is just fine. my suggestions 2 u would b just stick 2 it!, don't get frusterated (it might b hard @ first), remember that the more u practice the better and less confused u become, and that if u set yr mind 2 anything really that u can achieve it if it is something u r willing 2 dedicate yr self 2! :) good luck and i hope u start ballet- its really fun and its good excercise!

One can't possible peak at this age - surely adult dancers who dance on the real stage are way better in their early 20s than they were when they were only 14. Yeah, this is an important time, so if you think you might want to dance professionally - don't wait around for another 2 years, re-join now.

Don't question it too much whether or not you are good right now. Just put your best effort in it, enjoy it, and don't get dicouraged by supressing comments like the one above me.

If you already have a background in ballet, than I think it's a great idea-if nothing else than for the exercise, the discipline and the sheer enjoyment of it. If you're expecting to be an instant star though, you may be disappointed.

I think you need to be fairly good, otherwise, you won't so hot when the younger girls out perform you. If you are not good, I recommend that you not return.
