umm. so final fantasy 12 is by far the best (technically, storyline, playability, features and character-wise) final fantasy game ive ever played. far better then the other ones. X had a good storyline, but didnt do much with the characters. 7 developed a few characters, and had a great story. 8 developed characters a little more, again had a great storyline.
12 is just so much better.

let me tell you the story behind final fantasy's name.
way back in the olden days, a brighter time, a time when children played in the streets, and ate wild berries and parents didn't have to worry nearly so much as they do now ... like 20 years ago... there was a company called square.
this company was starting to go broke. they didn't really know what to do about it, they just weren't that successful. but they tried.
well, finally, they decided to put all of their money in one last hit or miss shot. a creation of a game that would most likely make the company go bankrupt. while rpgs weren't new, there was dragon warrior by enix (the grave in elfland said erdrick on nintendo) and there were tabletop games like ad&d, this was still a new venture.
since it was possibly the last game, they called it 'final fantasy' that it might have been their last fantasy to have a successful game. they didn't include much of a story, it was just a 'go here, then there, then here' game. luckily for square, it made it big though.

simple it WAS going to be just one game but people liked it so much that they made other ones but the thing is no final fantasy has anything to do with an other ( except for 10 & 10-2 ) so each one is its own game and never involves an other final fantasy game

The creator of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi, was going to retire after making the first one for the Famicom (Nintendo Entertaiment System.) However the game became a great success and became the larges franchise for square.
